CABINET HARDWARE FOR FLIGHTCASES:
What is “U” Rack Space?
The “U” is the measurement term used by the Flightcase and Rack building industries to indicate the height of rack space that will match the equipment that you intend to load into the said space.
For example, if you see one of our Flightcases which claims to accommodate 8U rack space, this should tell you exactly how much space that you have to work with. Many of the accessories in this section include blank panels and other cut outs measured in U space and designed to help fill a case in harmony with the actual equipment.
The vast majority of professional equipment in the entertainments industry is rack-mountable. Generally, you will see this equipment described as “19” Rack-Mountable”. The 19” width of this equipment is accommodated by the Flightcases which are described as 19” Rack Cases.
The height of the rack-mountable equipment will generally be described by the manufacturer. For example, we have the Kam KXR600 2U 19” Rack 600W Amplifier. This tells you that this amplifer can be rack-mounted in a standard 19” rack-case, and that it will take up 2U in rack space.
