WHY WE CHOOSE 5 STAR CASES AS OUR MAIN SUPPLIER:

Better By Design

5 Star Cases utilises some of the latest software for its product design and quotations. From an initial enquiry and consultation with the client, a host of systems are used to produce the case design, quotation, bill of materials, CAD and CAM worksheets and QA documents.

The Images Sales Team work can work closely with you for customized designs, discussing your requirements from an early stage. Equipment to be housed in the case is accurately measured and photographed wherever possible, or dimensions are obtained from the client. Once the basic design and concept is reached with the customer, a quotation along with a multi-view drawing is prepared and sent. This is achieved in several ways including fax, post, e-mail or, by hand by a Sales Representative.

Once the quotation and basic design is approved by the client, the next stage in the process is to produce the CAD (Computer Aided Design) file. Currently this is handled by Para Cad +, a two dimensional design program that 5 Star Cases has been using for over ten years. Para Cad + is used to produce all panels, internal partitions and special features of the case.

Most of the 5 Star CAD workstations are equipped with twin screen systems. This enables the user to have for instance, Para Cad + on one screen while the other can display the quotation itself. Para Cad + has been heavily customised by the 5 Star Technical Department to meet specific requirements. This enables new staff to quickly adapt to the system, with a user friendly interface and dialogues.

Once the CAD files are completed, the next stage in the process is to produce the toolpath and code, ready for the CNC machining centre. This is carried out with Mastercam, the industry leading CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) programme. 5 Star have been using this system since investing in CNC in 1999. Mastercam imports the geometry from the saved Para Cad + files.

The operator selects the necessary tool from the library and the software creates Numeric Code which is interpreted by the machining centre. The basic material sheet size used is 2.4m x 1.2m, so the relative parts are ‘nested’ onto the sheet layout. A single sheet can hold parts for a mixture of many different jobs. In October 2004, 5 Star Cases Limited invested in its first license of the world class ‘Solid Edge’ software.

Solid Edge, from UGS is the high end 3D solid modelling, part design and assembly system used throughout the world. The Technical Department will, over the coming months develop this software and incorporate it into its existing systems. Solid Edge also produces photo realistic renderings, giving the client a better idea of the proposed case.
