KARAOKE MUSIC:

Tell me all about "Multiplex" and other “Vocal Guides” for your Karaoke Discs?

What is Multiplex? Multiplex discs, have removeable lead vocal guides for each song so that you can choose to listen to the song with or without the vocals. Occasionally, manufacturers of players can refer to this facility on the players with other terminology. Watch out for “Vocal Remove”, “MPX”, “Vocal Changer” or “Vocal Partner” – these are all ways of saying “Multiplex”.

How does it work? It’s a very simple and effective concept - an entire lead vocal is recorded on one side of the stereo compact disc. Certain players have “multiplex” or “vocal remove” facility – at the touch of a button on the player, the disc reverts to a mono recording, putting out the same music track through left and right, and cutting out the vocal track. If your player does not have the multiplex facility, you can still “artificially” cut out the lead vocals. Although it’s not ideal, assuming you have a stereo system with a left-right balance control, you can cut out or add on one side of the mix at will.

How many discs have got Multiplex facility? Around 1000 of discs that we sell benefit from this added feature. This is often highlighted when you look at “more information” on each product, but we didn’t start to do it at first. It is something that we are getting around to at the moment. If you’d like to use Multiplex discs and need guidance on which ones have it, then please e mail us at sales@images2.co.uk or call us on 01506 442111 – our staff are always happy to help.

What does “with vocal demo mean”? We have over 1,000 disc titles which have 2 versions of each track recorded. Once, recorded with lead vocals for practice purposes, and once recorded without vocals for Karaoke performance. Typically, tracks 1-8 would be without vocals, and tracks 9-16 would include lead vocals. Sometimes, these discs have Multiplex facility also, but it is not so necessary given that you can use the full practice version. Wherever applicable, we have tried to clearly state which discs benefit from dual recording.
