FINAL SCRATCH SYSTEM
Final Scratch allows mixing of digital audio files, controlled with any DJ turntable. The FS10K package includes three special vinyl records, the ScratchAmp to connect the computer to your existing turntable/mixer setup, and the Final Scratch software. An FS10K system, which supports 3 turntables, includes the Final Scratch software, the Scratchamp, and 3 FS vinyl records.
Final Scratch is the best and only real bridge for the professional and home DJ to enter and control the digital world. By using any standard turntable/mixer setup, a DJ can now manipulate digital music the way they have always done it... by hand and by vinyl. DJs can now mix both analog records and digital files the way they have always been accustomed to and prefer.

Just load any digital audio file onto your computer, then pick and choose from your own playlist. Your computer becomes your record box. As well for the professional, save and load any production, remix, or new edit you have created and play it that very moment or take it to gig the same night without the need to cut an acetate or make test pressings.

Software
The Final Scratch software allows the user to save the audio files in various playlists, called Record Boxes, as well to search and assign the audio files to either turntable. The sofware provides a visual representation of the music, needle position for each audio file, and remaining time of each audio file.

Records
The vinyl records included in the final Scratch, which contain digital information, are used to mix digital audio files like MP3, WAV, AIFF, and audio CD. All mixing is done directly from the turntables, including seeking, pitch shifting, cueing, spinning up and down, and even scratching. The final scratch records can be used in combination with tradional analog records when mixing your set.

Hardware
The ScratchAmp acts as a powerful sound card to connect all the components together to form the system. It provides 2 sets of phono inputs and outputs and 2 sets of line outputs. The ScratchAmp processes the signal from the Final Scratch records and sends it to the computer via USB.

FINAL SCRATCH FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is Final Scratch?
A: Final Scratch is a unique and patented technology that allows real-time manipulation and even scratching of digital music files such as .wav and .MP3 by using your turntables.

Q: What are the system requirements for a computer running Final Scratch?
A: Standard CPU with at least 500 MHz, RAM 128 MB, OS Linux. USB port and a CD-ROM drive that is ATAP1 compatible (all drives shipped last 3 years are, so all new PCs equipped with a 500 MHz CPU will).

Q: What kind of soundcard do you recommend for Final Scratch?
A: No special sound card is required because Final Scratch has its own special Scratch Amp, which eliminates the need for a high-end sound card. Your standard sound card that came with your laptop should be sufficient.

Q: What is included in the Final Scratch package?
A: The FS10K package includes three special vinyl records, the ScratchAmp (to connect the computer to your to your existing turntable/mixer setup), and the Final Scratch software disc (including FREE a Linux Auto Boot). Your standard DJ setup, 2-turntables and a DJ mixer with 2 or more channels. DJ skills are NOT included!

Q: Why do I need special (encoded) records?
A: The specially manufactured vinyl record can be used to mix digital audio files like MP3, WAV, AIFF, and audio CD. All mixing is done directly from the turntables, including, pitch shifting, cueing, spinning back and forth, even scratching and “needle dropping”. This special code is what controls the actual file being retrieved from your computer. The final scratch records can even be used in combination with traditional analog records when mixing your set. However, it cannot be used without the ScratchAmp and software.

Q: Do I need a special mixer or DJ cartridges?
A: No, Final Scratch was designed to be a plug and play system. It integrates with any standard turntable and 2-channel mixer (with switchable phono/line inputs); special DJ cartridges are not required but a freah (new) set of Styli are recommended for best calibration. (In other words dirty carts will effect the performance of your system)

Q: What's the big deal?
A: Final Scratch is the best and only real bridge for both the professional and home DJs to enter and have total control over the digital world. By using any standard turntable & mixer setup, DJs can now manipulate digital music the way they have always done it... by hand - with vinyl. DJs can now mix both analog records and digital files back to back, and do it the same way they are accustomed to.
Other reasons include:
• No more heavy vinyl to carry around.
• No more damage to the sound quality of your music.
• No more additional cost of cutting acetates/dub plates just to play original music on turntables.
• No more conflict between digital/analog mediums (FS uses both)
• No more time wasted while producing tracks, go from studio production to playback club in a matter of seconds.
• No more “digging in the crates” looking for that favourite record.
• No more wishing you had brought that favourite record to your gig.

Q: How good is the sound quality?
A: The sound quality depends on the bit rate and quality of the original file. Since Final Scratch is the only system that uses CDs, MP3s, WAVs, and AIFFs, the sound is only as good as the original file. We recommend encoding your sound files at 128kbps or higher for normal club play.

Q: Can Final Scratch beat match or beat count for me?
A: No, the system was not designed to do any of the work for you. However, you do have the option of searching or categorising music by BPM.

Q: What about effects?
A: Since everything is done by the DJ through the standard setup, any desired effects have to be done in the mixing process (via your DJ mixer/external effects processor).

Q: Can I record with Final Scratch?
A: Final Scratch currently does not include a record feature, but YES you can still record your mix. Remember everything is done the “old fashioned way” (use record output on your mixer into a CD burner or a separate soundcard). If you were to attempt to record through the software you would not be able to record the actual fades between the two turntables (remember the DJ mixes the music, not the software).

Q: Does Final Scratch work on an AMD chip with Windows XP or just Linux?
A: Final Scratch will work on any Standard 500 MHz processor (Intel, AMD, and Crusoe). But it needs an OS that is completely stable, Windows XP is NOT stable enough for Final Scratch, however you can easily have both (Linux and Windows) operating systems in one computer and not have a problem.

Q: Can the special records be damaged? If so how much do they cost to replace?
A: The Final Scratch encoded records can be damaged just like regular vinyl... when something happens to one side, just use the other. Replacement records will be around the same price as an imported 12".
