Record more music onto a single MD. Sony's newest MiniDisc decks and systems have a feature called Long Time stereo recordings and playback. Instead of 80 full minutes of high-quality digital music, this Long Play function allows you to record up to 160 minutes in LP2 mode with no noticeable loss in sound quality. For even more compression (and consequently more music), the innovative LP4 mode gives you an unsurpassed 320 minutes of continuous digital stereo sound. That's over five hours of non-stop tunes on just one MD!
Make your mixes faster
With so much ease and versatility, MiniDisc recording is inherently cool. But getting it done quickly is even cooler. MiniDisc decks or systems featuring High Speed Dubbing can record from CD to MD in half the time. Some models can do it in four times the usual speed while still preserving the superb digital sound quality you expect from MiniDisc.
ATRAC3 vs MP3: The showdown
Many exacting listeners find Sony's ATRAC3 digital music format superior to MP3 in quality. Standard ATRAC (Adaptive TRansform Acoustic Coding) divides the 16-bit 44. 1kHz digital signal of your CD music into 52 frequency sub-bands, which is more precise than any other commercial compression format - even MPEG Layer 3 (MP3). If you compare the two formats at an average compression rate of 128KB per second, MP3 is not as faithful to the CD stereo as ATRAC3. This same high coding efficiency of ATRAC3 makes it perfect for the demands of MDLP and portable music players. ATRAC3 is the clear choice for superior digital sound.
