LCD Technology has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, to such an extent that the viable future of the Plasma TV is now in serious doubt. LCD TVs have a longer life span than Plasmas and CRTs, and can double as monitors for computers and DVD visuals, with their ability to display very sharp images. Like Plasma TVs, LCDs are also very thin, and recent improvements have given them better viewing angles at up to 178 degrees, making them perfect for social environments.

An important difference between plasma and LCD technology is that an LCD screen doesn't have a coating of phosphor dots (colours are created through the use of filters). That means you'll never have to worry about image burn-in. ("Burn In" is a phenomenon that occurs when an image is left on the screen too long, like if you pause a DVD for a long time. And to put it mildly, Burn In is a major problem. Once burn in happens, you will always see a ghostly outline of the Burnt In image no matter what you are watching). LCDs on the other hand create a picture by blocking light from an outside source (basically a powerful light bulb). This makes it impossible for burn-in to happen on an LCD screen.

LCD TVs are extremely energy-efficient, typically consuming 60% less power than comparably-sized tube-type direct-view TVs!
